About Myself

H ello, my name is Marcia E. Powell, and here is a little bit about myself:

I grew up on a corn-and-soybean farm in Illinois. I started playing piano when I was 5, violin at age 9, oboe at age 11, always sang (and harmonized), and discovered in high school that I had "perfect pitch." So I attended the University of Illinois and got two degrees in music. I taught for two years at the University High School; then moved to San Diego, California, and taught junior high music for two more years.

In 1970 I read Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard, was fascinated by it, and within months was working on the ship with L. Ron Hubbard. I wanted to be a trained Scientology auditor (pastoral counselor), so I worked and studied for 8 years and achieved that goal. Then I continued my Scientology studies and counseling while being a legal secretary in downtown Los Angeles.

From 1974 onwards, I was the founder and director of the Church of Scientology Choir. Over these many years the choir has done many, many performances, including appearing for many years at the Los Angeles County Holiday Festival at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, singing with the Pasadena Pops and the Korean Philharmonic, and in 1992 we did the Neil Diamond HBO Christmas Special.

In 1998 I started my own business--a matchmaking service catering to Scientologists worldwide.

I currently live in Hollywood, California. I have a 14-year-old daughter and a wonderful boyfriend.[End]
